A1 finishes bathing and was waiting in her room for me to give her clothes to wear...
After waiting for some time and asking for them in words, when she didnt get a response, she started singing (in the tune of "Give me some sunshine" from 3 idiots):
Give me some sunshine, give me some clothes,
I wanna dress up once again!

Dinosaurs
A1 and A2 have been watching "Dinosaur train" and are very into dinosaurs these days. A1 knows quite a bit about different dinosaurs. A2 is not there yet, but he knows quite a few names. And all his bed time stories are about one dinosaur eating another. He loves stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus and they are his favourites. In the also rans are brachiosaurus and argentinosaurus.
A1 makes up dinosaurs. Her favourite is "Businessmakasaurus" that was created when I set up my first stall. From being a dinosaur that creates business it has since transformed into some kind of super saurus that is magical, has googol number of secrets, has many heads that go from here to the moon, has wings in the front and back, can fly, breathe fire and do a million other stuff.
She also makes up names like "Sleepalotasaurus' and "Wontwakeupasaurus", both for A2 when he wouldn't wake up one morning.
V came up with "Parkinglotasaurus" to compete with A1's "Businessmakasaurus" and one sure fire way of getting A1 riled up (very useful in waking her up in the morning) is to say how the parkinglotasaurus is better than the businessmakasaurus.

A1 is quite the grown up
A1 is all of 5 and half now. And boy does she surprise and delight me.
One morning we were pretty rushed. I had just got ready and realized that I hadn't packed the kids bags yet. As I rushed out into the hall I saw that not only had A1 packed both bags, she had got A2 to wear his as well. We were all set.
Today the three of us were in the park when I realized A2 was nowhere to be seen. A1 on the other hand was playing with her friend who wanted her to come home. When I told A1 she had come with me to look for A2, she did. She found A2 and brought him back on her cycle.
I am very proud of my girl.

Hey Na Na Hey Na Na
A2's version of this very-popular-around-here song "Hey na na hey na na I have got a mad little crush on her" sang while pointing at me. My little guy is a Mama's boy through and through :)

Ring a Ring o' Roses and more
The poem "Ring a Ring o' Roses" is very popular around here
This is how A2 says it now:
ringa ronga rosy
pocka ronga rosy
ashus ashus
all fal dawnnnnnn
eyen-ta-puppl-bunny = I want purple Barney.
Its almost bed time. I finish up at the kitchen and ask V "Ok, so which monster are you picking?"
Before he can answer A2 pipes up "This monster!!!" in his best of pleading voices.
A2 came into our bedroom and noticed that the two antennae of our wireless router were pointing down. He turns the antennae up, turns to me and says "Mummy, I put the wipers up, mummy"

Cowie the moo
A1 came up with this name for a character in a game V and the kids played today. I forget the official name for this game, but its the one where you go around the group of players and create a story one sentence at a time.
She named the first character Cowie the moo - it was a cow.
Not to be outdone, V came up with Piggy the oink :)
A2 then proceed to come up with some really plausible story extensions!

A little overwhelmed
A2 can be very affectionate and vocal about his feelings when he is in the mood. I especially love it when he is in his lovey dovey moods. Everytime he says "I love you, Mummy" I revel in it. The other day were were cuddling up, one of those lovely Mom-baby moments when he looks at me and says "Mummykutta" I haven't been so affectionately addressed by anyone as far as I can remember. Not by my parents. Not V. I was overwhelmed to say the least. This little tyke has me by my heartstrings.

A sense of humour
A1 is almost five and I have started sending her to the play area on her own. I, of course, watch her from the balcony. There are a strict set of rules that she needs to follow. Stay in the sand pit. Come when you are called.
Don't follow other kids if they go else where. As I listed out the rules, I asked her to repeat them. She repeated all of them and followed it up with "Fish are friends, not food". It brought instant laughter to the both of us and we said a very chuckly bye at the door. V and I are not exactly known for our wit. But the genes do exist in our family, hopefully our kids have got them

A1 has a vivid imagination
A1 has a very vivid imagination. At times we have to differentiate between her reality and ours. Her make believe scenarios are very detailed. A few weeks ago she was playing with a particular friend of hers, a boy a few months older than her. The play seemed very intense with a lot of sand and leaves involved. After a while I walked over and asked them what their play was. A1 went into this story about how they were at a hospital that had new born babies and they were using the leaves to make milk for the babies. I asked her friend if that was so and he said "I don't know aunty. That is what she says". So much for that.
A1 has a Mommy animal and Baby animal game that she plays with A2. A2 to his credit plays along. A1 is truly maternal in these role plays and plays perfect Mom to A2.

Keeping pace with the kids
A1 and A2 have reached the stage where they are fighting as much as they are playing together. Both of them love carrying tales about each other. A2 has this plaintive way of saying "Achi no share ipad, mummy". He also has this "Achi no picha, mummy?" statement that he makes each time he is reprimanded for pinching A1. The tone says that it is a completely new concept that he has never heard of earlier.
A1 is more direct. She'll say her piece and then step back to watch. If no consequences are obvious, she'll press her point. "What's his punishment, Mommy?". And then stay around to make sure that her little tale telling has been aptly rewarded.
